Ask the group to explain why adherence is so important in orderfor ART to be effective. (Answer : to prevent the developmentof drug-resistant HIV in the body, which causes treatment failure.Poor adherence causes resistance.)4. Tell the group that there are a lot of reasons for poor adherenceto ART. Tell the participants that they are going to have a chanceto explore these reasons by working on a project.5. Divide participants into small groups of four or five people.6. Provide each group with cut shapes of colored paper, additionalpaper, scissors, flip chart paper, markers, and tape. Tell thegroups that they will be asked to describe the reasons why somepeople do not adhere to ART by using the materials they havebeen given. They can use the materials to make any visualrepresentation they like; they can make a flowchart, VennDiagram, or any other type of picture. They can write or drawon their chart as they wish. The chart could include any of thefollowing, but is not limited to:• Reasons why people stop using ART• Reasons people forget to take their treatment on time• Reasons why people don’t take the right amount of theirmedication• Other factors that hinder consistent use of ART44Explain that there are no “rules” for this activity.
