IAgenda No.<strong>1st</strong><strong>Reading</strong>AgendaNo.2nd <strong>Reading</strong> & Final PassageORDINANCEOFJERSEY CITY, N.J.COUNCILAS A WHOLEoffered and moved adoption of the following ordinance:CITY ORDINANCE 11-009An O..dinanc:e dedic:ating that the inteirec:tion of Monanoutb and FifthTITLE: Staeets aiso be knoW'n as Louis Calaanito WayWHEREAS, Louis Calamito was bom on Apnl 8th, 1923 in downtown <strong>Jersey</strong> <strong>City</strong> and lived his entire life onMonmouth Street where he was known as the "Mayor of Monmouth Street" until his death on April 25th, 2005; andWHREAS, Louis Calamito attended P.S.#5 and was a life long parishioner ofbusiness owner and a Hudson County Democratic Committeeman; andHoly Rosary Church, a <strong>Jersey</strong> <strong>City</strong>WHREAS, Louis Calamito maried Mar Saccente on June 26, 1946; andWHREAS, The Calamito's were blessed with four children:Lois Ann Calamito - Executive Administrative Assistt at the Bank ofNew York in Manhattn;Joe Calamito- Publisher and owner of the River View Observer in Hudson County;Vin Calamito- retired Mail Carier for the United States Post Offce and who now caries the title of "Mayor ofMonmouth Street";Michael Calamito - Seton Hall Graduate currently working at Fidelity Investments; andWHREAS, Louis Calamito was the devoted grandfather of Brendan, Lisa, Erin, Tamy, Wiliir and Thomasand great grandfather of Brayden, Addyson, Ava, Bily, Kaylee, and Jaidah; andWHREAS, Louis Calaiito served his countr as a soldier with the Distingiished America Division, serving 19months in the War Zone and having seen fierce combat in the Philppines; andWHEREAS, Louis Calamito received for his service to his countr and his community the following awards: theBronze Sta, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the W orld War II - US 1941-1945 Freedom of Speech and Religion, the Effciency Honor and Fidelity, the Good Conduct Medal, and thePhilppine Liberation Medal; andWHREAS, Louis Calamito has served his countr, his city, arid his community with absolute honor and valor;andWHREAS, Louis Calamito's Milta Service was ineritedveteran inItaly, who was a pnsoner offrom his father, Joseph Calamito, a World War Iwar and escaped captivity; andWHREAS, Louis Calamito inspired his family to miltar commitment through his 2 sons, Michael Calamito, aLt. Colonel in the United States Army Reserve, who served in Iraq from 2006 to 2007. His son, Joe Calamito,Army veteran, joined the milta in 1969 during the height of the Vietnam War and served 2 years, he wasdeployed 13 months in South Korea.NOW, THREFORE, BE IT ORDAID, that the Municipal Council ofthe <strong>City</strong> of<strong>Jersey</strong> <strong>City</strong> deems it fittingand proper to honor Louis Calamito for his many contributions to <strong>Jersey</strong> <strong>City</strong> by dedicating that the intersection ofMonmouth Street and Fifth Street also be known as Louis Calamito Way.
