For the convenience of those persons (and entities) which utilize the services ofoff-duty law enforcement offcers of the <strong>Jersey</strong> <strong>City</strong> Police Deparent, and to authorize the outsideemplo)'ent of(Mtmeipaf) police while off-duty, the <strong>City</strong> of <strong>Jersey</strong> <strong>City</strong> hereby establishes a policyregarding the use of fs off-duty officers in compliance with Attorney General Formal Opinon1997~No. 23.(1) (Members öf the <strong>City</strong> öf <strong>Jersey</strong> <strong>City</strong> Pöliee Depaitinent Police Offcers, at theiroption, shall be permitted to accept police-related employment ff from privateemployerf, who are separate and independent from the <strong>City</strong> of <strong>Jersey</strong> <strong>City</strong>, onlydurg off-duty hours and at such time 'as will not interfere with the effcientperformance of regularly scheduled or emergency duty of the <strong>City</strong>; provided,however, thatti offcer may work within a premises licensed by the AlcoholBeverage Board. Offcers are not permitted on the "licensed premise" itself, whichis the area licensed for alcohol consumption, retail sale or storage; provided fuerthat no offcer may accept off-duty employment under ths ordinance by anygovernental agency of the <strong>City</strong> of <strong>Jersey</strong> <strong>City</strong> other than the <strong>Jersey</strong> <strong>City</strong> HousingAuthority. .(2) (An:y persölr öl entity wishing tö emplö:y) Prospective employers of off-duty policeshall: fflJ obtain the prior wrtten approval of the Chief ofPolice (m his pI liedesignee), which approval shall be granted if, in the opinon of the Chief of Police(ör lns ör her designee), such employment is necessar and would not be inconsistentwith the effcient fuctioÌig and good reputation of the Police Deparent andwould not uneasonably endanger or theaten the safety of the offcer or offcers whoare to perform the work.
