4 Internet Printing4.1 Installation Procedure for InternetPrintingThis section explains the installation procedure for printing using the Internet PrintingProtocol (IPP).System ConfigurationThe printer supports Internet Printing Protocol (IPP). As Windows 2000/Windows XP/Windows Server 2003/Windows Me is installed with the client software needed to output toIPP printer, you can specify the printer to support IPP using the [Add Printer Wizard]. UsingIPP, you can print to a remote printer through the Internet or intranet.The transport protocol for IPP can be TCP/IP.IPP client(Windows Me/Windows 2000/Windows XP/Windows Server 2003)InternetTarget ComputersThe following computers support Internet printing:Connection OS Service/Client ProtocolIPP (TCP/IP) Windows 2000Windows XPWindows Server 2003IPP port monitorInternet protocol (TCP/IP)Windows Me IPP port monitor TCP/IP protocolImportant• For Internet printing from a Windows Me computer, the IPP port should be installed. Set Up ProcedureThe setting procedure is as follows:1. Setting up the printerSet the IP address on the printer control panel.Use the printer control panel or CentreWare Internet Services to set the IPP port to[Enable] (default: [Disable]).Note• Before activating the IPP port, set the IP address of the printer.For details on how to set the IP address and the port, refer to Setup and Quick Reference Guide.• CentreWare Internet Services allows more detailed settings. For details, refer to the Online Help forCentreWare Internet Services.2. Setting up the computerInstall the printer driver for Windows 2000/Windows XP/Windows Server 2003/Windows Me.Refer to• “4.2 Installing the Printer Driver” (P. 25)4.2 Installing the Printer DriverThis section explains instructions on how to install the printer driver in the computer.Note• Before installing the printer driver on the computer, check that Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) or TCP/IPprotocol has been installed. If it has not been installed, refer to the Windows 2000/Windows XP/Windows Server 2003/Windows Me manual to install it.• When using the internet printing through the proxy server, an error message, “Cannot be connected tothe internet” may appear when setting the printer. When this happens, change the setting of the IPaddress without going through the proxy server by selecting [Internet Options] on the [Control Panel]window. For details on how to do this setting, refer to the Windows 2000/Windows XP/Windows Server2003/Windows Me manual.Installation Procedure (Windows 2000/Windows XP/Windows Server 2003)The following procedure explains how to install the printer driver, using Windows XP as anexample.The procedure is as follows:1.
