11.2 Using SMBThis section provides information on the possible causes, verifying methods andrecommended actions pertaining to errors which may occur when the printer is used withSMB.The Printer Is Not FoundCause Verification ActionThe transport protocolused by the clientcomputer and printer isdifferent.There are multiplebrowsers.The network (subnet) iswrong.Name search of the hostname is not workingcorrectly (for TCP/IP)The host name specifiedalready exists in theprinter.On the client computer, you can find theprinter when searching it as anothercomputer ([Start] > [Find] > [Other computer])but not when searching for it in the NetworkNeighborhood.(same as above)(same as above)When specifying the printer IP address andthe relevant Host Name do not respond to thePING command issued.Check if Status of SMB on the [SystemSettings List] indicates that the host name isrepetitive.Specify the same transport protocol for SMBin the printer and every client computer.When there are multiple client computerswithin the same workgroup, change the [AutoMaster Mode] in the [config.txt] file to [Off],and then reboot the printer.When the printer and the client computer arein different networks, contact your systemadministrator.Check the settings of the [config.txt] file(WINS Primary Server, WINS SecondaryServer, Subnet Mask) with the settings on theclient computer (e.g. WINS, DNS, LMHOST).Change the [Host Name] of the [config.txt] fileto another name not in use.Or, change the host name used byCentreWare Internet Services to anothername not in use.Or, reset the printer settings to default values.The Printer Is Not PrintingCause Verification ActionThe printer is processingprint instructions fromother client computers.(only for non-spool mode)The printer has exceededthe maximum number ofconnections allowed.Check if the printer is processing printinstructions. (An error message aboutinsufficient memory for waiting print jobs isdisplayed.)Check if the printer is processing requests(e.g. print instruction, status enquiry) frommultiple client computers at the same time.(An error message about remote computercannot be used is displayed.)After the printer has processed the printinstructions, send a print job to the printer orat the printer, change the mode to spoolmode.Wait for a while, then send the printinstruction again.Or, increase the value of [MaximumSessions] on the [config.txt] file, and thenreboot the printer.68 11 Troubleshooting
