The Program<br />
This program prepares students primarily<br />
for teaching math in junior high school and<br />
high school. (For information on pre lim inary<br />
and pro fes sion al clear teaching cre den tials,<br />
see Education.)<br />
Courses in calculus, computer programming,<br />
num ber theory, geomet ry, statistics,<br />
and history of mathe matics comprise the<br />
program’s core. <strong>Humboldt</strong> <strong>State</strong> offers sev -<br />
eral computer labora tories with a variety of<br />
computers, including main frame, mini, and<br />
micro computers.<br />
An active Math Club meets weekly and<br />
sponsors various activities and talks. A<br />
spe cial scholarship fund for outstanding<br />
math ematics stu dents was established by<br />
professor emer itus Harry S. Kieval.<br />

Study the role and ef fects of mass media in<br />
contemporary society.<br />
Preparation<br />
Take mathematics each year in high school.<br />
Creative writing, read ing, art, and computer<br />
programming are also helpful.<br />
