The Program<br />
This program seeks to provide a background<br />
in the history of broadcasting, to build skills<br />
in an nounc ing and reporting, and to explore<br />
is sues in law and other social and economic<br />
areas.<br />
Participants study a variety of issues, with<br />
opportunity for on-air radio work in news,<br />
public affairs, music announcing, and more.<br />
Especially when com bined with a major in<br />
journal ism or communication or with other<br />
mi nors (public rela tions, journalism/newseditorial,<br />
media studies, film production),<br />
this minor assists in achieving career goals<br />
in media.<br />
Preparation<br />
Take high school or community college<br />
courses in speech, journalism, and mass<br />
communication.<br />

The Program<br />
Students completing this program will<br />

finance, management, and marketing<br />

Our goal is to educate students for lifelong<br />
learning. Our curriculum emphasizes critical<br />
thinking and communication skills stressing<br />
integration of business disciplines with op-<br />
tions in accounting, finance, international<br />
business, management, and marketing.<br />
<strong>Humboldt</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong> is committed to<br />
teaching in small classes. Business students<br />
learn to produce professional quality written<br />
assignments and oral presentations delivered<br />
in a realistic business setting.<br />
Business students apply a wide-range of<br />
computing skills, including projects that develop<br />
their information research capability.<br />
Acquisition, analysis, and presentation of<br />
statistical data are quantitative skills that get<br />
special emphasis in our program.<br />
We are a small department that encourages<br />
frequent, personal contact with students;<br />
our office doors are open to encourage<br />
student interaction. Business majors can<br />
participate in student club activities, in internships,<br />
and in other special events that<br />
provide professional, practical experience.<br />
Preparation<br />
High school students should follow prep aration<br />
requirements for the CSU system.<br />
Community college students should take<br />
approved substitutes for lower division core<br />
courses. Community college courses may<br />
not be transferred to fulfill upper division<br />
core or option requirements.<br />
Consult your community college advisor or<br />
contact the School of Business if you have<br />
questions about transfer credit for business<br />
courses.<br />
