PROGRAM: This conference program has divided
lectures and posters into two sections. The abstracts
of presentations appear in the appropriate section. The
author index is located in an additional section. The
index references the page number where the abstract
appears.
Presentors of oral papers should arrive about 15
minutes before the session is scheduled to begin. If you
are using slides, please give them to the projectionist
before the start of the session.
Posters have been numbered. If your poster is an even
number, you must be present in the poster session on
Monday afternoon. If your poster is an odd number, you
should be present at the Wednesday session.
Posters should be mounted on Sunday evening. All
poster spaces have been numbered. Please be sure
to mount your poster in the space that corresponds to
your poster number in the program.
LOCATION OF SESSIONS: Oral sessions are in the
North Exhibit Hall. Poster sessions are in the Lilac
Ballroom.
EMPLOYMENT CENTER: The employment center will
maintain a file of resumes. If you wish to register, please
come to the center on Monday morning. Notices of
employment positions may be placed on the bulletin
board designated for that purpose.
REGULATIONS: The following regulations are in the
best interests of the conference:
. No smoking in any session, including the poster
sessions.
. Registration badges must be worn to all con-
ference activities, including hospitality suites, the
welcome reception, and the Wednesday cocktail
party.

. Your cooperation is requested in closing hospitali-
ty suites at 2:00 a.m. in compliance with
Rochester liquor laws.
. The opening of hospitality suites should not
conflict with conference sessions.
HOSPITALITY SUITES: Hospitality suites are located
in the Holiday Inn, as well as the Convention Center.
The suites in the Holiday Inn are on the mezzanine level
(same level as the skywalk) and in parlors on the upper
floors.
CONFERENCE REFRESHMENTS: Coffee Breaks will
be available on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and
Thursday mornings in the GaUeria of the Convention
Center at the times indicated in the program.
There will also be refreshments served during the poster
sessions on Monday and Wednesday afternoons.
LUNCH: A cafeteria-style lunch may be purchased in
the South Exhibit Hall. With the number of people
expected to use this service, long lines at the beginning
are inevitable. However, the crowd will be served as
efficiently as possible. Please be patient.
If you prefer to go out for lunch, a restaurant guide is
located in this program.
NIAGARA FALLS EXCURSION: The Niagara Falls
excursion buses will load at the (~onvention center main
entrance between 12:15 and 12:30 p.m. Lunch will be
served on board the buses. Non-U.S. citizens must bring
a passport or appropriate papers for Canadian customs.
The buses will return at approximately 6:30 p.m.
COCKTAIL PARTY: The cocktail party hosted by
Varian Associates will be in the Rochester Plaza Hotel
(across the river). It will be in the ballroom foyer, second
level, between 6 and 7:00 p.m.
