Restaurants in Rochester
Restaurants close to the Convention Center are located in some unlikely
places. This selection is intended to help you find them. No claims are made as
to completeness, and you may very well find a restaurant you like that is not on
the list. Within about a mile of the Convention Center there are many more
eating places than there are in the immediate downtown area. With a car or
some extra time you may want to try some of the outlying places mentioned at the
end of the list.
First for the more exoensive olaces. In Rochester this means about $25 for
a full meal. exceot where noted.
The first revolving restaurant in New York, The Changing Scene, is
located on the top floor of First Federal Plaza, the tall building next to the
Rochester Plaza.
Chapel's is located in the former City Hall, a renovated historic setting.
is very good, but in the evening you will spend at least $40 per person, and the
meal usually spans several hours.
Edwards at 13 S. Fitzhugh is just off Main street, several blocks west of
the river. It is one of the well-established, quality restaurants in Rochester, but is
also likely to be more expensive than most.
Joseph's is a good Italian restaurant located at 169 N. Chestnut, about a
block from the Eastman Theater. The prices are well within reason.
The Riverview Cafe in the Rochester Plaza is also a good choice.
Meals in the moderate ranae should run about $15.
An excellent oriental restaurant is the Bangkok, 155 State Street, across
from the Rochester Plaza. It has both a Chinese and a Thai menu, and will give
you a 5% discount on evening meals if you show your registration card. Lunch is
at the menu price.
Beams Restaurant, 106 Andrews Street at the corner of St. Paul one
block north of the Holiday Inn is pleasant. Some of their menu items have a
"health-food" note.
A new restaurant that comes with good recommendations is The Filling
Station. The building formerly was just what it says. It is located at 30 Mount
Hope Ave., just across the Inner Loop.
Trebor's, on State Street across from the Rochester Plaza, is popular
among the business crowd at lunch.
