SESSION DESCRIPTION<br />

GERD is very prevalent in the US, affecting as much as 20% of the population; and Nissen Fundoplication is still the<br />

surgical Gold-standard for the treatment of this disease. General surgeons need to become familiar with the critical<br />

steps of this operation, be knowledgable when recommending and skillful when performing Nissen Fundoplication.<br />

SESSION OBJECTIVES<br />

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:<br />

• Identify the fundamental principles of laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication<br />

• Recognize how different approaches to the dissection and performance of fundoplication may be used to achieve<br />

these principles<br />

• Compare different techniques from expert surgeons, understand the nuances between them, and potentially<br />

incorporate some of them into clinical practice<br />
