SESSION DESCRIPTION
Speakers will draw on the science of intraoperative teaching and the emerging literature on surgical coaching to
improve the knowledge and skills of participants in these content areas. The workshop will focus on both real-time
instruction in the operating room and post-operative video review.
SESSION OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:
• To understand the principles of how trainees acquire and retain skills
• To become aware of the importance of learning outcomes in setting a framework for teaching
• To learn different ways in which coaching conversations can be derailed
