SESSION DESCRIPTION<br />
In this session, residents and fellows representing the next generation of <strong>SAGES</strong> members will present their best<br />
research to a panel of expert faculty. A selection of the top submitted abstracts will ensure top quality research with a<br />
broad range of current topics. After each presentation, expert panelists will rank each resident/fellow presenter with<br />
regards to:<br />
1. Study contents<br />
2. Significance in clinical surgery<br />
3. Originality<br />
4. Study designs/methodology<br />
5. Interpretation and analysis of study findings/results<br />
6. Appropriate use of statistical tests<br />
7. Overall presentation skills, including slides, clarity of presentation, and audience engagement<br />
Awards will be given to two (2) top presenters at the conclusion of the session.<br />
SESSION OBJECTIVES<br />
At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:<br />
• Identify and discuss challenges and pitfalls in research design, methodology and data mining, interpretation of<br />
research findings, and potential clinical applications in practice of surgery<br />
• Identify future/potential research topics related to the presented subjects, that are feasible by surgical residents and<br />
fellow during their clinical training or dedicated research time<br />
• Acquire an appreciation for the depth, breadth and importance of research conducted by surgical residents and<br />
fellows for academic and clinical knowledge developments, as well as contributions to the science of surgery<br />
• Recognize optimum preparation and communication skills to deliver concise 7-8 minute presentation<br />
