SESSION DESCRIPTION<br />

Common bile duct stones (CBDS) can occur in 3-15% of patients with choledocholithiasis. Every general surgeon<br />

will encounter CBDS in his/her career. Management of CBDS is variable as many general surgeons have limited<br />

experience with common bile duct exploration (both laparoscopic and open). Additionally, management of CBDS by<br />

gastroenterologists and interventional radiologists is variable and dependent on practice locale and expertise. This<br />

video session is to provide insight and offer techniques for the management of CBDS by the general surgeon.<br />

SESSION OBJECTIVES<br />

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:<br />

• Describe the steps and techniques for open and laparoscopic common bile duct exploration<br />

• Distinguish and articulate the multidisciplinary therapeutic options for common bile duct stones/access<br />
