16. On the Windows taskbar, click the Start, point to All Programs, click Microsoft<br />

SharePoint 2010 Products, and then click SharePoint 2010 Central<br />

Administration.<br />

17. If the User Account Control dialog box appears, click Yes, or if prompted, type<br />

your user name and password, and then click OK.<br />

18. In the Application Management section, click Create site collections.<br />

The Create Site Collection page is displayed.<br />

Tip In the Web Application section, if the Web application in which you want to create<br />

the site collection is not selected, click the arrow to the right of the Web application<br />

name, and then click Change Web Application. On the Select Web Application page,<br />

click the Web application in which you want to create the site collection.<br />

19. In the Title and Description section, type the title and description for the site<br />

collection.<br />

20. In the Web Site Address section, under URL, select the path to use for your URL<br />

(for example, an included path such as /sites/, or the root directory, /).<br />

21. In the Template Selection section, in the Select a template list, select the template<br />

that you want to use for the top-level site in the site collection. For the<br />

purposes of this book, choose Team Site from the Collaboration tab if you<br />

are working with SharePoint Foundation. Choose Publishing Portal from the<br />

Publishing tab if you are using SharePoint Server.<br />

22. In the Primary Site Collection Administrator section, enter the user name (in the<br />

form DOMAIN\username) for the user who will be the site collection administrator.<br />

23. Click OK.<br />

CLEAN UP Close the browser.<br />

Enabling All Site Templates on a<br />

SharePoint Server Site<br />

In a SharePoint Server environment, when you want to create a new site, you might find<br />

that the site template you want to use in the browser is not listed on the Create page.<br />

Troubleshooting If you want to base the new site on one of the practice solution .wsp files,<br />

be sure you have first uploaded the file to the Solutions gallery. See “Using the Practice Files”<br />

section at the start of the book.
