The idea of us<strong>in</strong>g channels was <strong>in</strong>troduced <strong>in</strong> order to reduce the device address<strong>in</strong>g<br />

overhead. However, it also improves the security of the data by hid<strong>in</strong>g<br />

the <strong>in</strong>formation about the receiver. It is known only for a short period of time dur<strong>in</strong>g<br />

open<strong>in</strong>g channel. Each communication device can have active 4 send<strong>in</strong>g and 4<br />

receiv<strong>in</strong>g channels at the same time.<br />

In order to ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong> the connection a s<strong>in</strong>gle packet with 12 bytes of data is<br />

send. First two bytes conta<strong>in</strong>s the same value 0xFF, next two bytes are equal to<br />

two oldest bytes of the sequential number counter, rest of the bytes are the number<br />

of four channels. In case of lost channel transmission cont<strong>in</strong>ues with the next<br />

channel. The set of channels is recovered with <strong>in</strong>com<strong>in</strong>g ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g connection<br />

packets. Send<strong>in</strong>g those packet also forces movement with<strong>in</strong> the network which<br />

prevents from los<strong>in</strong>g connection.<br />

7 Conclusions and Future Work<br />

The article presents the dedicated secure m<strong>in</strong>iature radio communication device<br />

for group of unmanned vehicles. The device is capable of establish<strong>in</strong>g and ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g<br />

a secure connection on its own, which releases the resources of the vehicles<br />

CPU for more advanced control and navigation algorithms. Therefore by<br />

us<strong>in</strong>g the presented device it is possible to implement cooperation schemes <strong>in</strong><br />

vehicles <strong>in</strong> the same group.<br />

The device was designed on basis of previous tests [1],[8] and already tested<br />

us<strong>in</strong>g a group of unmanned aerial vehicles. Acquired results prove the possibility<br />

of a secure communication <strong>in</strong> a range depend<strong>in</strong>g of the used antenna but start<strong>in</strong>g<br />

from 2 km. Dur<strong>in</strong>g the performed tests regardless the application <strong>in</strong> the forest the<br />

connection was stable and reliable which is very promis<strong>in</strong>g for future implementations<br />

with<strong>in</strong> project ideas like [11].<br />
