<strong>Enel</strong> and Kepco sign cooperation agreement<br />

for the development of smart grids and<br />

carbon dioxide capture and sequestration<br />

On November 11, <strong>2010</strong>, <strong>Enel</strong> and the Korean Electric Power<br />

Corporation (Kepco) signed a letter of intent (followed<br />

by specific memorandums of understanding) in Seoul to<br />

develop cooperation in the areas of network systems, particularly<br />

in the field of smart grids, and technologies for reducing<br />

emissions of greenhouse gases, particularly carbon<br />

capture and sequestration (CCS).<br />

The parties have undertaken to pursue cooperation and<br />

the mutual exchange of information in the development<br />

of these two technologies, both considered crucial to<br />

shaping the future of energy efficiency and a low-carbon<br />

society.<br />

Agreement with EIB for financing<br />

investment in renewable<br />

On December 10, <strong>2010</strong>, <strong>Enel</strong> Green Power and the European<br />

Investment Bank (EIB) signed an agreement for a<br />

loan totaling €440 million that may be increased, subject<br />

to further agreements between the parties, up to €600<br />

million. The 20-year loan bears a significantly lower interest<br />

rate than the market benchmark rates and will be used<br />

to finance the installation of wind and photovoltaic plants<br />

with a total capacity of 840 MW. <strong>Enel</strong> Green Power plans<br />

to invest a total of around €1,300 million in this project.<br />
