(f) STABILIZA TION OF et-CARBONI UM IONS. A feature of ferrocene chemistry is

the ready stabilization of a carbonium ion in which the positive charge is

concentrated a- to one ring. Crystalline salts can be isolated from the protonation

of ferrocenyl carbinols or vinylferrocenes with acids such as HPF 6 , which ha ve

weakly coordinating anions.
