Ventenat 69 (1757-1808), in which, following <strong>the</strong> ideas <strong>of</strong> A.-L. de Jussieu, <strong>the</strong> number<br />

<strong>and</strong> form <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> cotyledons is <strong>the</strong> most important classifying characteristic 70(see figure 3).<br />

Pierre-Etienne Ventenat (1757-1808), librarian <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Pan<strong>the</strong>on, was a staunch supporter <strong>of</strong> A.-L. de Jussieu,<br />

he was known too for his fine book ordered from <strong>the</strong> empress Joséphine owner <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> “Jardin de la Malmaison”:<br />
