Instructions for Authors<br />

Ann Hist Phil Biol reports research results from all fields <strong>of</strong> history <strong>of</strong> sciences written<br />

in English or German. Manuscripts must be <strong>of</strong> general interest <strong>and</strong> not only addressed to<br />

specialists, Contributions from all over <strong>the</strong> world are welcome. Ann Hist Phil Biol<br />

preferentially publishes research <strong>and</strong> review papers (<strong>of</strong> up to 25 printed pages maximum)<br />

that will be reviewed with high priority.<br />

Papers will be accepted that have not been published previously. Concise presentation is<br />

required. Although <strong>the</strong> nonspecialist reader should be kept in mind when abstracts, introductions<br />

<strong>and</strong> discussions are written, lengthy review-type introductions <strong>and</strong> speculative<br />

discussions should be avoided. Diffuse <strong>and</strong> repetitive style should be avoided. Illustrations<br />

<strong>and</strong> tables should be limited to <strong>the</strong> truly essential material.<br />

Length <strong>of</strong> Papers<br />

Papers should not exceed 25 printed pages. One printed page in <strong>the</strong> journal (without<br />

figures <strong>and</strong> tables), usually has about 600 words or 3000 characters.<br />

References: About 22 references usually fill one printed page.<br />

Arrangement<br />

Title page: The first page <strong>of</strong> each paper should indicate: The title, <strong>the</strong> author's names <strong>and</strong><br />

affiliations, a short title for use as running head, <strong>the</strong> name, address, e-mail address, phone<br />

<strong>and</strong> fax number <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> corresponding author.<br />

Abstract: All articles must be accompanied by an english abstract <strong>of</strong> up to 450 words.<br />

Tables<br />

Each table should be typed on a separate sheet, numbered with arabic numerals <strong>and</strong><br />

accompanied by a short instructive title line. Each table must be referred to in <strong>the</strong> text.<br />

Figures <strong>and</strong> Graphics<br />

Please do not embed any tables <strong>and</strong>/or figures in <strong>the</strong> text document.<br />

Figures <strong>and</strong> graphics should be submitted separately in digital form.<br />

Colour illustrations can be published if necessary <strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> if <strong>the</strong> author makes a contribution<br />

to <strong>the</strong> printing costs.<br />

References<br />

Text<br />

References should be quoted in <strong>the</strong> text as follows:<br />

1. one author:<br />

"... as described by Darwin (1859)."<br />

"...as given in <strong>the</strong> published article (Darwin, 1859)."<br />

2. two authors:<br />
