have accepted the body as the self; gopika-suta/:1-the son of mother Yasoda;<br />

jnaninam-for persons addicted to mental speculation; ca-and; atma­<br />

bhatanam-for persons performing severe austerities and penances; yatha-as;<br />

bhaktimatam-for persons engaged in spontaneous devotional service; iha-in<br />

this world.<br />

TRANSLATION<br />

Caitanya Mahaprabhu then quoted, " 'The Supreme Personality of God­<br />

head, Kr�Qa, the son of mother Ya5oda, is accessible to those devotees<br />

engaged in spontaneous loving service, but He is not as easily accessible to<br />

mental speculators, to those striving for self-realization by severe austerities<br />

and penances, or to those who consider the body to be the same as the self.'<br />

PURPORT<br />

This verse, also given in Madhya-lila 8.227, is quoted from Srimad-Bhagavatam<br />

(10.9.21).<br />

sruti-gaQa gopi-gaQera anugata hana<br />

vrajesvari-suta bhaje gopi-bhava lana<br />

SY NONYMS<br />

sruti-gaQa-the authorities of Vedic hymns; gopi-gaQera-of the gopis;<br />

anugata hana-following in the footsteps; vrajesvari-suta-the son of mother<br />

Yasoda; bhaje-worship; gopi-bhava-the ecstasy of the gopis; /ana-accepting.<br />

TRANSLATION<br />

"The authorities in Vedic literatures known as sruti-gaQa worshiped Lord<br />

Kr�Qa in the ecstasy of the gopis and followed in their footsteps.<br />

PURPORT<br />

The authorities in Vedic literature known as sruti-gaQa desired to enter into Lord<br />

Sri Kr�r:Ja's rasa dance; therefore they began to worship the Lord in the ecstasy of<br />

the gopis. In the beginning, however, they were unsuccessful. When they could<br />

not enter the dance simply by thinking of Kr�r:Ja in the ecstasy of the gopis, they<br />

actually accepted bodies like those of the gopis. They even took birth in Vra-
