How to trap the light of Las Palmas, light as matter. There
were other matters and thoughts that came up from
the first second of this project. Architecture is not only a
matter of shapes, it is understood as the construction of a
landscape of relationships, and could even be considered
as an intended alteration of the complex networks that
weave the city. We live in spaces that are full of air and
light. We manipulate light to qualify spaces, experiment
with them and perceive them. We project shadows. We
protect ourselves from rain water by channelling it, we
install fire extinguishers. We use light and shadow to
change the perception of things, of sizes, of corners and
spaces. We think of Incube immersed in the qualities of
the light of Las Palmas, participating in its diversity and
chromatic richness, which is why it is lightweight inside
yet heavy outside. Light and luminosity in this city have
infinite nuances that treat us to days of diffuse shadows
of different densities, moments of intensity and clarity.
Days of warm light, filtered by the calima, dust storms
sent from the Sahara Dessert. Light reflected between
the clouds and the Atlantic Ocean. Architecture specifies
this informal matter, traps it and captures its shadows.
Juan Luis Trillo describes it as an enveloping matter that
is continuous, that allows us to soak it in, the same as
the wind. The continuity of the primary sources allows
us to create different interpretations and, therefore, new
