as an energy that transforms the space, the aspect of the

concrete, metal or glass. The shadows cast by the texture

of the precast elements change the perception of the

western façade throughout the day. Furthermore, the size

of the terraces gives depth to the self–cast shadows. This

is the most expressive and opaque face. On grey days, the

difference between the heavy outdoors and lightweight

indoors is less, the absence of shadows decreases the

contrast, the diffuse light inside approaching the diffuse

light of cloudy days.

The proposal reacts to the location, the social-economic

context (the building crisis, with a measured choice of

materials and technology available on the island; and

the constraints of the area and the location of this suburb

on the outskirts between ravines); the climate conditions

and the requirements of the developer with extremely

tight deadlines. We completed the block of the plot of land

in a corner of 43.20 x 13 m and connected the collective

areas to the altitude of the neighbouring building. We

modulated the building in slices of 1.35 m, the ideal size

for the speedy execution of the work and creating minimal

workspaces each measuring 2.70 m in width. We used

precast materials, a set of 32 modules completed the

43.20 m of the longest façade. This was then ready to be

inhabited. The setback terraces give an added value to

the workspace, an extra to the starting programme. The

indoor space investigates the flexible distribution between

uses and spatial quality, searching for a balance between

the minimum size of the offices and the space measured in

cubic metres. We included diagonal relationships to offer

the feeling of activity required for young entrepreneurs.

Placing the main entrance on the highest section of the

plot of land leaves one of the floors below that ground

level. Despite the two storeys stipulated by the planning,

we distributed the building granted among the three we

obtained, giving way to a more porous space inside. This

porosity is appreciated from the outside by means of the

depth of the holes in the smaller façade, which is shown

like a section. The linking and transit indoor areas are

inundated by the light pouring in though the division wall

from the overhead skylights. The result creates a contrast

between the heaviness of the outside and the lightweight

inside, between the shadows projected from the

enveloping surfaces and the luminosity contained within.

A play between material and space in different dimensions

of textures of light and shadow.
