Ouest de Madagascar.<br />
Who has ever heard of<br />
Gondwana or the super<br />
continent? Madagascar,<br />
is a geomorphological<br />
entity resulting from its<br />
dislocation like India, Australia, Antarctica<br />
or Seychelles. The movement of tectonic<br />
plates spreading this large block of Africa<br />
started some 160 million years ago, and<br />
Madagascar definitely individualised itself<br />
about 90 million years ago.<br />
This ancient isolation has resulted in a rate<br />
of endemism * unparalleled in many naturalist<br />
domains as Madagascar is the fourth largest<br />
island in the world.Imagine a mass of yellow<br />
sandstone "uniform", presenting an aspect of<br />
ruin, as a consequence of several million years<br />
of erosion, with an area of 4000 km² (bigger than<br />
the island of Reunion alone) about 160 km from<br />
North to South and 50 km from West to East and<br />
which calls for superlatives of all kinds making<br />
this Makay massif exceptional.<br />
This new Eldorado for enthusiasts of adventure<br />
and trekking par excellence, is located in the<br />
West Centre of Madagascar. It offers adventurers<br />
in search of new sensations like Indiana Jones,<br />
many trekking courses, as varied as each other.<br />
However, due to the excess of superlatives<br />
describing its naturalist riches or the beauty<br />
of these landscapes, several afflictions are<br />
putting this new Malagasy eden in danger: fires,<br />
poaching, slash-and-burn, woodcutting, zebus<br />
herds crossing and many other practices.<br />
So, it is high time to protect this jewel: this is<br />
