Summary
In the area that comprises the municipalities situated in the northern part of the
high plains of the province of Vicenza, a survey was conducted on the concentration
of major metals and metalloids in the soils: antimony, arsenic, beryllium, cadmium,
cobalt, chromium, copper, mercury, nickel, lead, selenium, tin, vanadium
and zinc. Altogether 92 samples were collected in 50 points, at two depths (5-40
cm and 80-120 cm, respectively representing the anthropic and the natural content
in each metal), on an area of approximately 4900 ha.
The analysis revealed the presence of significantly higher values of chromium,
cobalt, nickel and vanadium in the map units with parent basic volcanic rocks than
in units where soils originated from limestone. Only for certain metals (copper,
lead and zinc) were higher values found in the upper layer than in the deeper one.
Keywords: Soil; heavy metals.
On a prélevé 92
