Neste artigo, apresento as principais tendências teórico-metodológicas do campo
da Educação Ambiental, bem como as matrizes teóricas associadas à ideia
de sociedade civil, relacionando ambas à compreensão e ao enfrentamento da
crise socioambiental. Assumo minha opção política pela Educação Ambiental
crítica e pela matriz gramsciana de sociedade civil e discuto o potencial que
ambas apresentam para o enfrentamento da questão socioambiental e seus
desdobramentos no que se refere à Educação Ambiental. Ilustro minha discussão
com reportagens sobre meio ambiente provenientes de fragmentos de
artigos e textos jornalísticos de “suplementos ambientais” dos dois principais
jornais cariocas, buscando identifi car a perspectiva com a qual seus autores
trabalham ao se referirem à ideia de sociedade civil, bem como a(s) vertente(s)
teórico-metodológica(s) da Educação Ambiental à qual se fi liam. Concluo destacando
a necessidade de explicitação tanto do que se entende por sociedade
civil quanto por Educação Ambiental, no que tange à compreensão, ao enfrentamento
e à busca de soluções para a complexa, urgente e inadiável crise
socioambiental.

In this article, I present the main theoretical tendencies of Environmental Education
Field, as well as the theoretical tendencies associated to the idea of civil
society in relation to the facing of the social environmental crisis. I assume my
political option for the critical Environmental Education and for the Gramsci
idea of civil society, by discussing the potential that both perspectives have to
solve environmental problems and its implications to Environmental Education.
I light up my discussion with environmental reports that came from environmental
sections from the two main newspapers of Rio de Janeiro, and I try to
identify, in these journalistic essays, the theoretical perspective of civil society
and Environmental Education brought by its authors. I conclude by highlighting
the necessity of setting out the conception of civil society and Environmental
Education used for the understanding, facing and searching of solutions to the
complex, urgent and non postponing environmental crises.
