6.2 - A ruína no projecto“Testemunho do poder destrutivo do tempo e do triunfo da natureza sobre a cultura, asruínas conferem todavia à paisagem uma marca humana que as contém, abrindo-a parauma dimensão histórica. Tal como as peças de colecção, com as quais se assemelham pelafalta de utilidade, as ruínas podem, na maior parte dos casos, desempenhar o seu própriopapel graças à imaginação que vê nelas um signo de acontecimentos do passado, investindoasassim de valores particulares. As ruínas tornam-se portanto, fontes para o conhecimentohistórico que, através de um processo de pesquisa que as leva à atribuição, extrai os dadosrelativos aos seus artífices. Ruína é também metáfora de caducidade e de finitude...” 74Da anterior enumeração de modos de acção do arquitecto Souto Moura é notório um factorcomum: a ideia de projecto. A partir da interpretação pessoal do sítio, que se baseia emargumentos de carácter pragmático, de uma abordagem da topografia como elemento doprojecto, a ideia torna-se a leitura clara do sítio onde intervir assim como a interpretaçãoaparentemente única do edifício a propor. Esta ideia é de facto elementar, une e justifica acoerência das opções tomadas.“ ... quando um objecto artificial simula uma permanência perene e comunica uma sensaçãode que aquele sítio intacto não poderia prescindir daquele objecto preciso, significa que aArquitectura conseguiu o estatuto de “Natureza”, de coisa natural.” 75No início do percurso de Eduardo Souto Moura, a ruína é instrumento preponderante paraanalisar e compreender os seus projectos. Eduardo Souto Moura trabalhou com Álvaro Sizae em consequência existe uma coincidência temporal na abordagem do tema da ruína. EmSão Victor, esta influência é bastante clara, não só no modo de pensar a ruína como condiçãohistórica e de memória, mas também na maneira como ela é encarada de acordo com umametodologia de restauro ou reconstrução de património que o projecto pressupõe.A ruína pode ser elemento que “injecta” significado e valores a um edifício. Eduardo SoutoMoura é modernista, mas interpreta e corrige a faceta mais “cinzenta” do Estilo Internacional,lembrando que os edifícios precisam de uma interpretação sempre particular do sítio comoinstrumento de projecto. Não uma interpretação simplista do conceito de genius loci onde érecorrente afirmar que a solução projectual está no sítio, mas sim uma interpretação do localcomo matéria de projecto, sempre no sentido de ser Arquitectura. Ou seja, arquitectura comoum objecto preciso de que um sítio intacto não poderá prescindir.“... enfim, é o querer conhecer a história, não com imagens de frente, mas por dentro, nalucidez do projecto, onde a razão dita e o “sítio” aceita, quando o “sítio” informa e a razãoacerta” 76 .
