a drizzle emerges
tender, almost
loving, asphyxiating
sky, the sound
of a man and a woman
battling
wanting to move south
that much closer
to a desert's mirage
but there is no place
on earth tears don't
smash to the ground
it's the daily gravity
even storms
grow weak of themselves
and fury is a wind
without a kite

oedipus before oedipus
a shepherd, a wanderer, without
settled rules, found you
you who limped in swollen foot
and not even the sight of blooming
almond trees would inspire a spring gait.
tell me oedipus,
before you sank needles in your eyes,
and you jocasta, who killed yourself,
were you not happy in each others arms?
sap pulsing body, filling,
did you not tingle
and toss your hair back
to release the song
lodged in your chest
the olive oil dripping
from finger fed bread
and flowing along thighs
and when flesh polished flesh
and the olive oil's glow
sizzled
your tongues, flames
flickering along your bodies
and into the forest,
did you not gaze at the sky?
oedipus at your chest,
your nipples roused,
his lips moistened
like years before
and until the day the mind shot its arrows
piercing your flesh, blinding
the limitless breadth of no mores
with the mind's codices
rendering happiness relative
those linear and settled centuries
pinning the delicate skin of the eye
