alimentar este mito de la génesis de
las islas por la fecundidad de un dios
en medio de la vastedad marina.
El origen de la isla de Lanzarote,
como el del resto del archipiélago, es
volcánico, producto de una dilatada
actividad eruptiva que empezó de
forma submarina hace unos 30
millones de años y que aún no ha
finalizado. Lanzarote, denominada
en la mitología canaria Titerogakar,
junto con la isla vecina de
Fuerteventura, es una de las más
antiguas del archipiélago. Superado
ya el conocimiento mitológico, hoy se
cifra la edad geológica de este
vulcanismo emergido en quince
millones y medio de años.

in der kanarischen Mythologie
Titerogakar genannt, ist zusammen mit
der Nachbarinsel Fuerteventura eine
der ältesten der Inselgruppe. Sieht man
von den mythologischen Daten ab, wird
das geologische Alter dieser Vulkaninsel
heute auf fünfzehneinhalb Millionen
Jahre geschätzt.
