en el agua completando un círculo
ligeramente elíptico.
César Manrique ha cuidado muy
bien el efecto de este eye-catcher. Lo
que se ve tras el arco son unos
grandes lastrones que acentúan su
negrura por el contraluz que provoca
la apertura del Jameo Grande. En
esos lastrones, que se presentan como
una ladera natural, irregular y
ascendente, sin construir nada con
ladrillos o con hormigón, ha trazado
una escalera cuyos primeros
peldaños, que parecen horizontales,
en contraste con grupos de rocas
desordenadas que allí había, cruzan
de lado a lado la escena. A una cierta
altura, esa escalera se estrecha y sube
en zigzag, lo que se hace perceptible
sólo por la línea de luz que ofrece el
pasamanos de madera.

César Manrique was very
careful to highlight this eyecatcher.
What can be seen beyond
the arch is a series of huge flat
blocks whose blackness is
accentuated by the light beaming in
from behind, through Jameo
Grande. Using these blocks - which
appear to form a natural, uneven
hillside - as a base and with no
need for bricks or concrete, the
artist built a stairway whose first
steps, apparently horizontal by
contrast with the disorderly rocks
they replaced, are laid from wall
to wall. When it reaches a certain
height, the stairway narrows and
zigzags upward, an effect that is
only perceptible because of the
light bouncing off the wooden
railing.
Now then, when the observer
stands next to the lake, the image

des Vulkantunnels eintritt, in dem sich
der See befindet, wird er noch zu einem
anderen Aussichtpunkt geführt. Wenn
der Betrachter sich in die Mitte des
Tunnels stellt, mit seinen Füßen am
Ufer des stillen, bläulichen Wassers des
Sees, kann er eine Art enormes
Kaleidoskop sehen. Der fast halbrunde
Bogen des Gewölbes wird im Wasser
reflektiert und bildet einen leicht
elliptischen Kreis.
César Manrique hat den Effekt
dieses Eye-catchers sorgfältig geplant.
Hinter dem Boden sieht man einige
große flache Steine, deren Schwärze
durch das durch die Öffnung des Jameo
Grande einfallende Gegenlicht betont
wird. Mit diesen Blöcken, die scheinbar
einen natürlichen, unregelmäßigen
Hang bilden, hat der Künstler eine
Treppe gebaut, deren erste Stufen im
Gegensatz zu den dort zerstreut
liegenden Felsen horizontal scheinen
und die von einer Seite bis zur anderen
reichen. Ab einer bestimmten Höhe
wird die Treppe schmäler und verläuft
im Zickzack, was nur durch die hellen
Striche des Holzgeländers
wahrnehmbar ist.
