Las noticias sobre el abandono en
que se encuentran los parajes más
carismáticos de Lanzarote preocupan
a César Manrique quien, aun viviendo
en Madrid, está pendiente de todo lo
que concierne a su isla natal, la cual
visita con frecuencia permaneciendo
en ella los veranos y otros periodos de
vacaciones. Así, cuando en 1957
regresa a Lanzarote para pasar su
acostumbrada estancia estival, el
mismo periodista le hace una
entrevista en la que le pregunta su
opinión sobre el futuro turístico de la
isla y Manrique arriesga la idea de
construir en el Jameo del Agua una
grada anfiteatro de piedra que
permitiera, una vez al mes, ofrecer
alguna representación de teatro o de
ballet, así como hacer una instalación
eléctrica que, por medio de una
batería, alimentara un grupo de
reflectores de colores.
Sin duda Manrique, que era un
gran soñador, en aquella entrevista
estaba improvisando ideas que
entonces no parecían ser más que
sueños excéntricos de un artista, ya

Zweifellos sprach Manrique, der ein
großer Träumer war, in diesem
Interview improvisierte Ideen aus, die
zu diesem Zeitpunkt nicht mehr als
Hirngespinste eines exzentrischen
Künstlers schienen, denn schon damals
waren die Jameos weit entfernt von
jeglichem Stromnetz. So hätte die zur
Beleuchtung der Höhle notwendige
Energie durch Batterien produziert
