Dear Colleagues,
The advanced training and professional development programme of the DGPPN Academy
has been expanded continuously to meet the growing demand for workshops and courses.
Once again this year we have tried, in 72 workshops and 22 state­of­the­art symposia, to
provide an overview of the most relevant content for advanced training and professional
development in our profession. Many colleagues make use of the range of programmes on
offer to acquire the majority of their CME points which they must provide evidence of every
year. Just as many young doctors, however, take advantage of this opportunity to acquire
theoretical knowledge and practical skills in workshops and state­of­the­art symposia at the
DGPPN congress complementary to their local professional training opportunities. Current
psychotherapy methods such as schema therapy, the cognitive behavioural analysis system
of psychotherapy (CBASP) and other disorder­oriented psychotherapy methods will again
make up a large part of the program this year. Diagnostics, forensic content, socio­psychiatric
topics, transcultural psychiatry, neuroscientific aspects and pharmacotherapeutic treatment
facilities will be offered in line with the breadth of our profession. The popularity of the
academy’s programme is reflected not only in the excellent evaluation received from participants
and the lively demand but also in the readiness of acknowledged experts who agree
each year to deliver relevant advanced training and professional development courses. For
the first time ever, some of the state­of­the­art symposia and workshops will be offered in
English so that foreign guests will also be able to participate in the academy’s programme.
In this way, the DGPPN Academy is following up the effort being made through out the congress
to also attract non­German­speaking participants and to develop the position of the
DGPPN congress as Europe’s largest and most important congress for psychiatry and psychotherapy.
I hope all participants and lecturers will enjoy an in­depth exchange of views and ideas, take
part in stimulating discussions and have a lot of fun both teaching and learning.
