D Unpacking and Preparation<br />

The <strong>Puritan</strong> <strong>Bennett</strong> <strong>560</strong> <strong>Ventilator</strong> is delivered with the following items:<br />

(1) Printed <strong>User's</strong> <strong>Manual</strong> (language as requested by the customer)<br />

(1) Clinician's <strong>Manual</strong> on CD (a print copy is available upon request by the customer)<br />

(1) Patient circuit and valve<br />

(1) Set of six (6) combination foam/fine particle air inlet filters<br />

(1) Carrying bag<br />

(1) Oxygen connector<br />

(1) AC power cable<br />

Warning<br />

Users must always possess an additional circuit and valve while using the <strong>Puritan</strong> <strong>Bennett</strong> <strong>560</strong><br />

<strong>Ventilator</strong>.<br />

To minimise the risk of damage, you must use the Dual Bag to transport the <strong>Puritan</strong> <strong>Bennett</strong><br />

<strong>560</strong> <strong>Ventilator</strong>. See Figure D-2, Dual Bag.<br />

To unpack and prepare the ventilator, follow the steps below.<br />

1. From the plastic bag, remove the following:<br />

• Plastic pocket containing the Clinician’s <strong>Manual</strong>.<br />

• The ventilator and its components and/or accessories.<br />

2. Remove the patient circuit, the AC (“Mains”) power cable, and the set of fine-particle air inlet<br />

filters<br />

3. Inspect the ventilator and ensure that:<br />

• the ventilator’s outer casing and the I/O switch’s protective cover do not have any dents or<br />

scratches, which may indicate possible damage.<br />

• the ventilator’s labels and markings are clear and legible.<br />

• the AC power cable does not exhibit any signs of damage, such as kinks, breaks, or cuts.<br />

Warning<br />

Never use a ventilator or any components or accessories that appear to be damaged. If any<br />

signs of damage are evident, contact your equipment supplier or <strong>Covidien</strong>.<br />

4. Clean the ventilator with a mild soap solution, if necessary (refer to chapter 7, “Cleaning”).<br />

5. Ensure that the air inlet filter is installed.
