Section 5000 – Human Resources<br />
5230 Conflict of Interest and Ethical Responsibilities 5230<br />
The objectives of this conflict of interest policy are to maintain an impartial<br />
administration of the business of the School District and to maintain public confidence in the<br />
School District.<br />
No employee shall engage in, or be a party to, any of the following activities:<br />
• Situations where prejudice, bias, favoritism or personal gain is a motivating force<br />
in his/her conduct or situations which have the appearance of impropriety.<br />
• Disclosure or release confidential information (Cf. 5180), not otherwise available<br />
to members of the public, in advance of the time prescribed for the release;<br />
provided, however, that this provision shall not prevent an employee from<br />
divulging or releasing confidential information regarding suspected violations of<br />
law.<br />
• Benefiting financially from confidential information obtained by reason of<br />
his/her position.<br />
• Using human resources, property or funds of the School District, except<br />
judiciously and in accordance with good business practices and administrative<br />
procedures, and not for personal gain or benefit.<br />
• Soliciting or accepting a gift or loan of money, goods, services or other things of<br />
value which tends to influence, or has the appearance of influencing, the manner<br />
in which the employee performs his/her duties.<br />
• Engaging in or accepting employment or rendering services for a private or<br />
private entity when that employment or service is incompatible or in conflict with<br />
the discharge of the employee’s work duties, or when that employment may tend<br />
to impair his/her independence of judgment or action in the performance of work<br />
duties.<br />
• Engaging in any other employment or in any private business during the hours<br />
necessary to fulfill the duties of the School District position.<br />
• Making personal sales of supplies, materials, services or equipment to students or<br />
using his/her position to influence such sales.<br />
• Soliciting students to attend non-School District sponsored camps, travel trips,<br />
special schools, tutoring or other activities through which the employee will<br />
realize financial gain or advantage without approval of the Superintendent of<br />
<strong>Schools</strong> and a written “Disclaimer Statement” to the student and<br />
parent(s)/guardian(s) stating that the School District is not sponsoring, endorsing<br />
or otherwise participating in any way with the student activity.<br />
