Section 8000 – Students<br />

8645 Student Transportation in Private Vehicles (Cf. 7490) 8645<br />

Field Trips<br />

In scheduling transportation for field trips, the Superintendent may approve the use of<br />

private vehicles in situations in which budget or schedule restrictions make it prohibitive or<br />

impractical to use school buses.<br />

Student Self-Transportation<br />

In cases where a student is enrolled in a Board approved, shared time program, or<br />

District sponsored activity, at another school or program site (Example: An area career center,<br />

gifted and talented program or dual enrollment program with an area junior college, college or<br />

university) the parent(s)/guardian(s) of the student must grant permission for their child to selftransport<br />

to and from that site, subject to rules and regulations established by the Superintendent.<br />

8650 Student Accidents 8650<br />

Accident and illness may occur in the classroom and on school grounds. All school<br />

personnel shall be prepared to follow the necessary first aid procedures and other rules described<br />

in this section.<br />

Any school employee who discovers an accident involving a student on school property<br />

shall, in a timely manner, report the accident to the building Principal and follow the rules<br />

approved by the Board. Each building Principal shall establish procedures for handling student<br />

accidents at athletic events and other school related activities.<br />

8660 First Aid 8660<br />

The District may provide appropriate first aid and CPR training for identified personnel.<br />

This training may be provided as part of the District's in-service plan or other program established<br />

by the Board.<br />

Only those school employees qualified by District approved training and then only in<br />

case of emergency may administer first aid and CPR to students. School employees shall not<br />

attempt to treat any student injury after the initial treatment of emergency first aid. The District<br />

will not assume liability under these policies for employees acting outside the scope of their<br />

authority.<br />
