Section 1. Election of Board Members<br />

Article II<br />

Board Members<br />

The Board is composed of 7 members serving 6 year terms, and elected at an election<br />

held in November in accordance with MCL 168.1 et seq, or appointed by the Board to fill a<br />

vacancy.<br />

Nominating Petition/Filing Fee<br />

The School District Election Coordinator 1 shall receive nominating petitions from<br />

persons running for the Board or, in the alternative, personally receive a nonrefundable statutory<br />

$100 filing fee paid by the candidate.<br />

Section 2. Term of Office<br />

The term of office of a Board member shall begin on January 1 following his/her<br />

election, or immediately upon Board appointment. The term of a Board member, whether elected<br />

or appointed, shall end on December 31 the year his/her term expires. An appointed member will<br />

serve until December 31 of the year in which appointed, but must stand for election in the next<br />

scheduled Board of Education election for any remaining portion of the term.<br />

The “School District Election Coordinator” is the County, City, or Township Clerk as determined by the<br />

respective political subdivision and the Board.
