Section 8000 – Students<br />
8280 Electronic Communications Devices - Students 8280<br />
Students shall not use, or have in their possession on school grounds during the<br />
instructional day, any electronic communication device. Students who, by the<br />
parent(s)/guardian(s) request, are given permission by the building Principal to have in their<br />
possession an electronic communication device for health or other extraordinary reason must<br />
adhere to all rules and regulations as set forth in the Student Code of Conduct. 31<br />
In no case will any personal communication device be allowed that provides for a<br />
wireless, unfiltered connection to the Internet or which has the capability to take photographs of<br />
any kind.<br />
The administration shall promulgate rules to enforce this policy at the building level and<br />
publish those rules and penalties in the Student Code of Conduct.<br />

The Board approves of the following disciplinary measures for use in the District for<br />
those students violating the District's student code of conduct: deny participation in special<br />
school activities; before or after school detention; disciplinary contractual arrangements; out-ofschool<br />
suspension; in-school suspension; expulsion; and/or administrative interventions.<br />
The Superintendent and District's administrators shall develop the appropriate procedures<br />
dealing with student conduct and shall consider effective communications with<br />
parent(s)/guardian(s). Every effort will be made to work with necessary departments and agencies<br />
to deal with students in this process.<br />
All employees are responsible for the regulation of student conduct.<br />

Pocket pager, electronic communication device, or other personal communication device; applicability of<br />
subsection (1). Sec. 1303. (1) Until the end of the 2003-2004 school year, unless the Board or Board of<br />
directors adopts its own local policy to the contrary, the Board of a school District or Board of directors of<br />
a public school academy shall not permit any pupil to carry a pocket pager, electronic communication<br />
device, or other personal communication device in school except for health or other unusual reasons<br />
approved by the Board or Board of directors. A Board or Board of directors may develop penalties that it<br />
considers appropriate for a pupil who violates this prohibition or its own policy.<br />
(2) Beginning with the 2004-2005 school year, subsection (1) does not apply and the Board of a school<br />
District or Board of directors of a public school academy may adopt and implement its own local policy<br />
concerning whether or not a pupil may carry a pocket pager, electronic communication device, or other<br />
personal communication device in school.<br />
