shall be here a day or two longer—all seems going on well<br />

with the bargain about the house. . . . Miss Savile has<br />

requested of me two or three pictures more—two<br />

landscapes, one of the Valley—& the other of the Church—<br />

and a small picture from that one of my sisters. I was at<br />

Ipswich yesterday, & saw Mrs. Cobbold. . . . This has been a<br />

lovely day—early this morning I walked into a wood at<br />

Stratford, which was lovely with its rich autumnal tints. . . . I<br />

cannot fix a day for seeing London again, perhaps Wednesday<br />

news that the sale of the East Bergholt house had gone<br />

1818 Nov 11 Farington records: "I have omitted to mention that on the<br />

4th inst. I recieved a letter from Smirke, Senr. inclosing the<br />

Ballot for an Associate of the Royal Academy on the 2d. inst.<br />

each. J.C. is listed as one of 38 candidates; he receives one<br />

vote on the first ballot, which is won by W. Allston, and none<br />

on the second ballot, which W. Alston wins as well.<br />
