. . Captain Forster. . . . is to meet you at Salisbury. He was<br />

first caught by a sketch book of yours which I had. Your<br />

pencil sketches always take people: both learned & unlearned.<br />

. . . Bring with you my little Novr Salisbury my wifes coast<br />

1822 Oct 4 Letter from J.C. in Hampstead to <strong>John</strong> Fisher: "I can be with<br />

you on Thursday Oct. 10—or on Saturday the 12th. . . . I<br />

think I shall send my other large landscape to the Gallery next<br />

1822 Oct 7 Letter from J.C. in Hampstead to <strong>John</strong> Fisher in Salisbury: "I<br />

shall send you some picture to look at. . . . 'Green Highgate'<br />

has now changed its form again and become a very pretty<br />

picture—and deserves a better or at least a new name. I have<br />

made about 50 carefull studies of skies tolerably large, to be<br />

carefull. . . . [Tinney's] handsome behavior toward me, in<br />

wishing for a companion to his picture, was appreciated<br />

though waived by me. . . . This is I hope my last week here—<br />
