artists. "<strong>Constable</strong> said He had dined with Chantrey since the<br />

latter returned from Italy, and heard from him a general<br />

comdemnation of the mode of study pursued by modern<br />

artists at Rome, those who went from England & from all<br />

other quarters, but he declined mentioning the works of any<br />

individuals.—Chantrey & Jackson made many sketches of<br />

Landscape in Italy with black lead pencil.—He said that Turner<br />

was much occupied in the Vatican in drawing Capituls &c, and<br />

was very industrious, but nobody knew where he lodged.—<br />

Chantrey & Jackson on their return had a bad passage over<br />
