informs me it is the opinion of the whole Council as well as his<br />

own that I have made an advance upon myself this year. . . . I<br />

was about to commence a portrait of Lady Leonard. I began<br />

it three weeks ago . . . but I was obliged to decline it. . . . It<br />

was agreed that I should pass a month at Belhus in the<br />
