1806 Sept 10 Meets Charles and Sophia Lloyd and Robert Southey at the<br />

Harden's house in Brathay. (JCC V, p. 74)<br />

1806 Sep 13 Pen-and-ink drawing by <strong>John</strong> Harden, begun 13 September,<br />

showing J.C. in the music room at Brathay, listening as Mr.<br />

Worgan plays the harpsicord. (JCC V, p. 3)<br />

1806 Sept 13 Jessy Harden first records meeting J.C., in the company of<br />

her Irish friend Richard Shannon, at Brathay: "On Monday [13<br />

Sep] Mr. <strong>Constable</strong> who came with Richard from Worgan's<br />

went out with <strong>John</strong> and him to sketch." (JCC V, p. 3)<br />

1806 Sept 14 Probably 14 September, <strong>John</strong> Harden makes pencil drawing of<br />

J.C. at work on Jessy Harden's portrait. (JCC V, p. 4)<br />

1806 Sept 15 Jessy Harden records: "Saturday the gentlemen went out<br />

sketching & we three followed them to Skelwith, which is a<br />

beautiful village about a mile off. . . . Yesterday rained all day,<br />

so Mr. <strong>Constable</strong> got some oil colors & painted a portrait of<br />

me which he executed wonderfully considering he was only 5<br />

five hours about it." (JCC V, pp. 3-4)<br />

1806 Sept 18 Probably by 18 September, J.C. returns to Storrs Hall from<br />

Brathay. (JCC V, p. 4)<br />

1806 Sept 20 Jessy Harden records: "On Monday <strong>Constable</strong> finished my<br />

picture which is generally thought like & tolerably well painted<br />

particularly on considering he was only 9 hours about it. Mrs.<br />

Hunter arrived . . . & also Mr. Gardner, a friend of<br />

<strong>Constable</strong>'s." (JCC V, p. 4)<br />

1806 Sept Two undated drawings in Indian ink, made on way to<br />

ca. 20 Cumberland, of Thirlmere (Leathes Water), one showing the<br />

view from Dunmail Raise, with Helvellyn on the right. Oilsketch<br />
