and seen the Landscape by Rubens belonging to Sir G<br />

Beaumont,—which He thought the finest of the Master that<br />

He had seen.—He had also seen the picture painted in<br />

imitation of it by Ward which Mr. West told him was the best<br />

picture of the kind executed since the days of Rubens.—<br />

<strong>Constable</strong> thought such praise extravagant & sd. the picture<br />

shewed How inferior a production made up upon a picture is<br />

to one that is founded on original observation of nature."<br />
