<strong>the</strong> council <strong>of</strong> Antioch, affirmed Christ to be like, though not equal<br />

to his Fa<strong>the</strong>r. It was only in 358, that he closed in with Eudoxius,<br />

and <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r rigid Arians. And as to <strong>St</strong>. Cyril, it is also clear<br />

from <strong>the</strong> facts above mentioned, and from his writings, that he<br />

always pr<strong>of</strong>essed <strong>the</strong> Catholic faith with regard to <strong>the</strong> article <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Consubstantiality <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Son <strong>of</strong> God. This is demonstrated by Dom<br />

Toutée, in his life <strong>of</strong> <strong>St</strong>. Cyril, and by his colleague Dom Mares, in<br />

his dissertation on <strong>the</strong> Semi-Arians, printed at Paris, in 1721, to<br />

vindicate this fa<strong>the</strong>r against a certain author in <strong>the</strong> memoirs <strong>of</strong><br />

Trevoux, an 1721.<br />

c. 1. A very emphatical expression in <strong>the</strong> mouth <strong>of</strong> a pagan. He seems<br />

by it to ascribe sense to <strong>the</strong> element, by which he discovers <strong>the</strong><br />

finger <strong>of</strong> God visibly detesting <strong>the</strong> obstinacy <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> undertaking,<br />

and a renewal <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> eruption so <strong>of</strong>ten, till it overcame <strong>the</strong><br />
