Abstract
The needs for graduate management education in
developing countries like Nigeria have long been
identified. This is a result of the twin forces of
globalisation and democratic governance which
the country subscribed to at the beginning of the
21 st century. The Master of Business
Administration (MBA) programme has been
designed to equip participants with knowledge,
skills and attitude for managing corporate
concerns in the challenging environment of
contemporary times. The programme which has
also been designed to equip participants with
skills for identifying and operationalising
investment and entrepreneurial opportunities is
provided with specialisation in both traditional
areas like Corporate Governance; Banking &
Finance; Human Resources Management;
Marketing; and in non-traditional areas like e-
Banking; e-Library; e-Business.
This study critically examined the various
training needs of instructional/tutorial facilitators
of MBA learners of NOUN. MBA programme is
a post-graduate programme domiciled in the
School of Business & Human Resources
Management of NOUN.
The major source of information for this study
was from the administration of questionnaires to
incumbent and prospective facilitators and
interviewing all the stakeholders in the School of
Business and Human Resources Management.
Finally, it was concluded that training of
facilitators for this category of learners (MBA)
and those of other programmes of the institution
is essential and of great importance for effective
and efficient learning in an open and distance
learning institution like NOUN.

Le besoin de formation post-licence dans le
domaine de la gestion, dans les pays en voie de
développement comme le Nigeria, a été identifié
depuis longtemps. Ceci est dû à deux forces – la
mondialisation et gouvernance démocratique -
auxquelles le pays a souscrit au début du 21 ème
siècle. Le programme de ‘Master of Business
Administration (MBA)’ a été conçu pour
permettre à ceux qui le suivent d’acquérir les
connaissances, les competences et l’attitude
nécessaires pour la gestion des entreprises dans
l’environnement difficile du monde
contemporain. Le programme, également conçu
pour doter ceux qui le suivent de compétences
d’identification et d’exploitation d’opportunités
d’investissement et d’affaires, comporte des
spécialisations dans les deux domaines
traditionnels: gouvernance d’entreprises, banque
et finance, gestion de ressources humaines et
marketing. Ils existe également des
specialisations dans des domaines non
traditionnels comme : la banque électronique, la
bibilothèque électronique et l’e-Business.
Cette étude a identifié les divers besoins de
formation des guides pdagogiques des étudiants
de MBA à NOUN. Le programme de MBA est
un programme post–licence de la Faculté de
Gestion et de Gestion de Ressources Humaines à
NOUN. On s’est penché sur les besoins de
formation des guides pedagogiques de cette
catégorie d’étudiants.
L’étude a été faite essentiellement à partir de
questionnaires adressés aux facilitateurs en poste
et potentiels et d’entretiens avec tous les
partenaires de l‘établissement – les cadres
administratifs, les chargés de la Formation et les
Responsables de Programmes à la Faculté.
En fin de compte, conjecture que la formation
des facilitateurs de cette catégorie d’apprenants
(MBA) et de ceux des autres programmes de l’
établissement dans son ensemble, est essentielle
et très importante pour un apprentissage efficace
au sein d’un établissement d’enseignement à
distance comme NOUN.
