The international radio signal was produced<br />

from 30 minutes before the start of competition<br />

until 30 minutes after the conclusion of<br />

the international television signal<br />

• Competition Summary<br />

Each day, ORTO’98 supplied Rights<br />

Holders with approximately one hour of competition<br />

summary in two or three installments,<br />

pieced together from the day’s international<br />

signal. International broadcasting organizations<br />

which were not rights holders were provided<br />

with about six minutes of Olympic<br />

highlights in two installments daily.<br />

Unilateral Production Support<br />

Rights Holders supplemented the international<br />

signal with their own unique feeds.<br />

Providing the Rights Holders with necessary facilities,<br />

equipment, and technical staff at the IBC<br />

and the competition venues to facilitate such<br />

unilateral operations was another major<br />

responsibility for ORTO’98 and NAOC.<br />

Commentary positions were set up at vantage<br />

points that commanded an excellent view<br />

of competition, with space for three people at<br />

each position. The commentary positions were<br />

supplied with desks, chairs, an AEQ digital<br />

commentary unit, a CIS terminal, and a CCTV<br />

monitor.<br />

Coordination of requests from Rights<br />

Holders for unilateral coverage was carried out<br />

with NAOC and other relevant personnel and<br />

arrangements made for camera positions. ENG<br />

camera positions were established at each competition<br />

venue to allow broadcasters to supplement<br />

the international signal, and these were
