Based on data entered in the accreditation<br />

system, the badging system was utilised to<br />

produce the first combined Olympic identity /<br />

accreditation cards at an Olympic Games.<br />

• Access Control<br />

The access control system verified the validity<br />

of accreditation cards. A “negative list” of<br />

suspended or cancelled accreditation cards<br />

and other access control data was downloaded<br />

to the handheld bar code readers used at<br />

venue entrances to verify access rights. The<br />

data was downloaded every three hours<br />

through the venue requester workstation located<br />

in the security control rooms.<br />

• Games Staffing<br />

The Games staffing system was used to<br />

match personal information on registered<br />

volunteers with requests from the various<br />

departments. Venue and job assignments,<br />

notification of assignment, and changes to<br />

volunteer schedules were all managed by<br />

the Games staffing system. It was also used<br />

for statistical analysis of volunteers, assessing<br />

volunteer assignments, creating name<br />

lists, printing address labels, and managing<br />

uniform distribution.<br />

• Medical Reporting<br />

Information about all treatments provided by<br />

NAOC medical staff during the Games was<br />

recorded on the medical reporting system, and<br />

this data was used to create the official documents<br />

submitted to the <strong>IOC</strong> Medical<br />

Commission. Medical reports were issued at<br />

the Medical Command Centre, where all data<br />

concerning medical treatment at all Games<br />

venues was collated. The basic medical reporting<br />

system was inherited from the Atlanta<br />

Games, but the report creation function was<br />
