Cooperation with the International Federations<br />

Close cooperation was maintained with the<br />
International Federations (IFs) for each sport to<br />
make preparations for the staging of competitions.<br />
Technical advisors appointed by NAOC<br />
received invaluable advice and assistance from<br />
federation experts, and coordinated preparations<br />
with the National Federations (NFs) and<br />
Nagano prefectural sports federations.<br />
For the Nagano Games, the following seven<br />
IFs were responsible for the technical control<br />
and direction of competitions:<br />
International Biathlon Union (IBU)<br />
International Bobsleigh & Tobogganing<br />
Federation (FIBT)<br />
World Curling Federation (WCF)<br />
International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF)<br />
International Luge Federation (FIL)<br />
International Skating Union (ISU)<br />
International Ski Federation (FIS)<br />
Technical Delegates<br />
The Technical Delegate (TD) appointed by<br />
each federation was responsible for inspecting<br />
venues and giving technical advice for the staging<br />
of competitions.<br />

IF Relations<br />
TDs and other experts from the IFs were invited<br />
to Nagano to inspect courses and venues<br />
and consult on various matters related to staging<br />
the competitions. Representatives from NAOC<br />
and the NFs attended IF <strong>Session</strong>s regularly to report<br />
on the status of preparations. Furthermore,<br />
NAOC Sports Director Tsunekazu Takeda<br />
attended sessions of the General Assembly of<br />
International Sports Federations (GAISF) and<br />
joint meetings of the <strong>IOC</strong> Executive Board with<br />
the Association of International Winter<br />
Federations (AIWF) to make progress reports<br />
and liaise with the IFs.<br />
Sports Programme<br />
Under the direction of NAOC’s Sports<br />
Commission, 14 sub commissions (one for each<br />
discipline) put together a schedule for the Sports<br />
Programme for the Nagano Games. After
