5.5.2 Swimming Pool: the Pool<br />

The primary deciding factor for losses and gains is the pool surface and, to a lesser extent, the pool shell<br />

insulation to the soil. The volume is decisive for calculating temperature changes.<br />

The pool measurements are entered directly for round and free-form pools and via length and width for<br />

rectangular pools. The mean depth of the water is determined from this information. In free-form pools,<br />

the longest length of the pool is used for approximate determination of the pool geometry.<br />

The maximum swimming pool temperature defines the temperature up to which the pool can be heated<br />

by solar power, and must always be higher than the desired temperature. A high maximum temperature<br />

allows longer operating periods of the collector loop, by definition increasing the swimming pool heating<br />

requirements and the solar fraction. The control of the auxiliary heating ensures that the pool is<br />

regulated with a hysteresis of 0.5 Kelvin.<br />

Outdoor pools<br />

The other fields are only relevant and can therefore only be completed for outdoor pools.<br />

The color of tiles defines the absorption of solar irradiation on the pool wall and therefore how much of<br />

the irradiated energy onto the pool surface can be used to heat the pool water.<br />

The prevailing wind speed is decisive for the convection and evaporation losses and therefore for total<br />

losses. Wind speeds are supplied with the climate file for the location. Define the geographical location<br />

of the swimming pool in its geographical environment, e.g. in a wooded area, a residential estate, or in<br />

the open. Enter whether windshields are available at the pool which can reduce convection and<br />

evaporation losses.<br />
