y Rs.30 per quintal each. The MSPs <strong>of</strong> masur<br />
and rapeseed / mustard has been retained at the<br />
previous year's level <strong>of</strong> Rs.1,870 and Rs.1,830<br />
per quintal respectively.<br />
3.11 The Government has fixed a MSP for<br />
copra for the <strong>2009</strong> season at Rs. 4,450 per quintal<br />
for Fair Average Quality (FAQ) variety <strong>of</strong> milling<br />
copra and Rs. 4,700 per quintal for FAQ variety<br />
<strong>of</strong> ball copra. The MSP for de-husked coconut<br />
for the <strong>2009</strong> season has been fixed at Rs. 12 per<br />
Kg. For toria, to be marketed in <strong>2009</strong>-10, the MSP<br />
has been fixed at Rs. 1,735 per quintal. The<br />
Government has also fixed the MSP for raw jute<br />
for the <strong>2009</strong>-10 season at Rs. 1,375 per quintal<br />
for the TD-5 variety ex-Assam. Recent trends in<br />
the MSPs for different crops may be seen in the<br />
statement given in Annexure 3.1.<br />
3.12 Market Intelligence and Price Analysis:<br />
The DES collects Retail Prices <strong>of</strong> Agricultural<br />
<strong>Co</strong>mmodities from 87 designated centers,<br />
which are compiled and disseminated in the<br />
form <strong>of</strong> a Weekly Bulletin <strong>of</strong> Retail Prices to<br />
various ministries and departments. Wholesale<br />
prices and market arrivals <strong>of</strong> agricultural<br />
commodities are also collected on a weekly and<br />
monthly basis from 700 centres spread all over<br />
the country. Out <strong>of</strong> these price quotations, about<br />
233 quotations on wholesale prices are<br />
disseminated to the Office <strong>of</strong> the Economic<br />
Adviser, Ministry <strong>of</strong> Industry and <strong>Co</strong>mmerce, for<br />
the construction <strong>of</strong> the Wholesale Price Index<br />

3.13 Agro-Economic Research (AER): Agro-<br />
Economic Research (AER) studies on the national<br />
and regional agro-economic problems <strong>of</strong> the<br />
country are carried out through selected AER<br />
Centres and Units covering the entire country. 12<br />
Agro-Economic Research Centres and 3 Regional<br />
Units have been established to take up problemoriented<br />
studies on a regional basis with a view<br />
to generating the requisite feedback from the the<br />
grassroots level, while three Units undertake interregional<br />
and all India-level studies.<br />
3.14 Agricultural Wages: Statistics relating to<br />
daily wages paid to different categories <strong>of</strong><br />
agricultural and skilled rural labour at selected<br />
centers are collected and compiled by the DES.<br />
20 States are covered for the collection <strong>of</strong> data<br />
on agricultural wages. These are published in an<br />
<strong>Annual</strong> Publication, i.e., Agricultural Wages in<br />
India, and a monthly publication, i.e., Agricultural<br />
Situation in India. Wage statistics are supplied<br />
to the CACP and other research organisations.<br />
3.15 Publications: In order to disseminate<br />
information regarding agricultural statistics,<br />
the DES brings out a number <strong>of</strong> publications.<br />
