13.2 Fruits and vegetables, together,<br />

constitute about 92 per cent <strong>of</strong> the total<br />

horticultural production in the country. The area<br />

under fruit crops is 6.1 million hectare with a<br />

total production <strong>of</strong> 68.5 million tonnes which<br />

13.4 Vegetables are an important crop in the<br />

horticulture sector and occupy an area <strong>of</strong> 8.0<br />

million hectares with a total production <strong>of</strong> 129.1<br />

million tonnes and have a productivity <strong>of</strong> 16.2<br />

tonnes/ha. in 2008-09 (Fig. 3).<br />
